Community Call: Second Annual International Women’s Voices Day – Vermont Edition

Attention Vermont Women Playwrights and the Theater Community Who Loves Them! Complications Company is producing the second Vermont Playwrights Edition of the International Women's Voices Day, in solidarity with women playwrights around the globe and in celebration of the voices here at home. This community showcase reading and potluck dinner will highlight the strong women’s voices on the stages of Vermont.  When and where is this?  The readings and potluck will take place on Sunday, January 20, 2019 – the weekend of Women’s March.  The event begins at 5:00 PM and will run until 8:00 PM. We will be meeting at the Off Center for the Dramatic Arts in Burlington. Who is invited? This is a community event to celebrate the voices of Vermont’s women playwrights – so everyone who supports our new play community is welcome! Other Mothers 24 Hour Playwriting Contest Performance - May 6

Date: Sunday, May 6 - 4:00 p.m. Place: Off Center for the Dramatic Arts (294 North Winooski Ave., Suite 116C, Burlington) Tickets: $10 at the door (reserve by emailing complicationscompany@gmail.com ) Join  Complications Company  and  BurlingtonVT Moms Blog  at  Off Center for the Dramatic Arts  for a fun afternoon of staged readings about all that is marvelous and infuriating about moms! Local playwrights (including  Meredith Gordon ,  Seth Jarvis ,  Emer Pond Feeney  and  Kim Jordan , among many other stellar writers) had 24 hours to write a short play based on ANOTHER playwright's mother.  A company of local actors ( Cael Barkman ,  Karen Lefkoe ,  Sarah Mell  and Jena Necrason) together with directors  Laura Roald  and  Mary Beth McNulty  have five hours to bring these brand new plays to life.  This weekend is a theatrical intensive on bringing ideas to the stage quick, with pa

Are you ready to join in our next big adventure?  Join our 24 hour playwriting challenge, starting the evening of Friday May 4! The topic... Other Mothers Participating writers fill in our online questionnaire about their own mothers, we collect them and randomly assign that character description to a fellow writer.  Everyone will use the information provided as a writing prompt to create a short piece in 24 hours, which will then be lightning-staged with our ensemble of four actors and presented to the public on Sunday, May 6, 4:00 p.m . at Off Center for the Dramatic Arts .  Judges from BurlingtonVT Moms Blog  will crown one of the presented works "MOTHER OF THE YEAR". Up for this challenge?  Ready to see how another writer sees your mom, be she a dearest mother or a Mommy Dearest? International Women's Voices Day!

We are hosting and curating the Vermont Playwrights Edition of the International Women's Voices Day, on Sunday, January 21, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Off Center for the Dramatic Arts in Burlington.  This free community event showcases unproduced plays by Vermont women playwrights - and is a potluck feast! Celebrate the first anniversary of the Women's March with us as we salute the women's voices of Vermont's stages.  And eat potato salad, together.
